Contemporary Faculty for 2024

Katie Morea

(Artistic Director)

Week 1 & 2

Principal at Morea Performing Arts, Katie trained at the London Contemporary Dance School and the Alvin Ailey School (NYC). Katie is a Fellow and Senior Examiner for the ISTD Modern and the Tap Faculties. She is part of the team that created the ISTD Children's Modern Theatre Grades and the recently launched Advanced Two Modern. She is also the creator of part of  the syllabus for the ISTD Vocational level Advanced Two Tap. Also, she is creator of many of the new ISTD Advanced 1 Modern Syllabus.

Katie also studied at the Limon, Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham Studios in New York.

 

She was Head of Contemporary and Composition at Bird College where she was Principal Choreographer and Dance Director for the Bird Theatre Company. She has also taught at Elmhurst Ballet School, London Contemporary Dance School and the London College of Dance, all professional dance schools.

 

As an International lecturer for the ISTD, Katie delivers the syllabi and trains teachers all around the world. She teaches and choreographs for professional companies and has worked in Italy, Cyprus, Norway, Portugal, Malta, Germany, Greece, South Africa, Malaysia, Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, the USA, Canada, Trinidad, Mexico and the UK.

 

Katie was also Head of Contemporary at Bird College and is former member of the ISTD Modern Theatre Dance Faculty Committee.

Simon Williams

 

Trained at the Royal Ballet Lower and Upper School, Simon joined English National Ballet Company in 1997 where he performed all the major Classical Ballets. In 1999 he joined Adventures in Motion Pictures and performed in Matthew Bourne’s 'Swan Lake'.
After a short break in his career, in 2001 he rejoined the ’New Adventures Company’ to dance in 'The Car Man' and 'Nutcracker' performing many different roles. This was followed by a tour to Japan with Sylvie Guillem, performing in 'Trois Histoires d’Amours'.
In 2003 Simon joined the Michael Clark Company, where performed in the World premiere of 'Oh My Goddess' at Sadlers Wells and European Tour. In 2004 he performed with Mikhail Baryshnikov in 'Solos with Piano or Not' at the Barbican. He then continued to work with the Michael Clark Company performing in: 'The Stravinsky Project ', 'MMM', 'O', role of 'Apollo' in 'I DO' and 'Les Noces'.

In 2005/07 Simon returned to 'Swan Lake' to perform the leading roles of both ‘the Swan’ and ‘Prince’ for the world tour. Then in 2009 he rejoined the Michael Clark Company to premier the new work of 'Come, Been and Gone' on the World tour and Barbican seasons during 2009/10. During the ‘Come,Been and Gone’ tour he also performed in Matthew Bourne’s ‘Swan Lake’ dancing both roles ‘the Swan’ and Prince’ again, this toured until 2011.

Other credits that year included Kylie Minogue for the ‘X Factor Ukraine, Michael Clark Company on various projects and also the new work ‘Who’s Zoo’ in collaboration with bands ‘Scitti Pollitti’ and ‘Relaxed muscle’.

He returned to perform with Kylie Minogue again at the ‘X Factor Final” 2012, which was choreographed by Aaron Sillis.
 

In 2013 he performed in Ivan Putrov’s Men In Motion show for the Ravenna festival, where he premiered his first piece ‘ I was Beat, incomplete’ performing with Aaron Sillis. He also performed again ‘The Swan’ solo from Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake.
He have recently finished the UK and Internatioanl tour of Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake, performing the main role of ‘The Prince’.

Catarina Carvalho

Week 2

Catarina was born in Lisbon where she began her dance training with teacher Anna Mascolo. She then went to France to continue her training for six years at the École Supérieure de Danse de Cannes Rosella Hightower, with a scholarship from the Ambrosoli Foundation.

After graduating, Catarina joined Ballet du Rhin as an apprentice and performed works by Bertrand d’At. She also worked with Javier de Frutos, Vasco Wellenkamp, Benvindo Fonseca, Cézar Moniz and Rui Horta among others. Catarina has taught for numerous dance schools and companies, including Laban Summer School and GDA, and she is a certified BASI Pilates Mat work teacher.

 

Catarina recently choreographed for Laban CAT students’ final year show. She has been collaborating with Nina Kov since 2010 when she performed Divide by Zero, a solo piece with the interactive visual artists collective Hellicar & Lewis.

 

Catarina joined Wayne McGregor Random Dance in 2008 and took on the role of Rehearsal Assistant in 2013.

Catarina is Contemporary Faculty at Morea Performing Arts.

Neil Flemming Brown 

 

Neil began his training at Anniesland College Glasgow under the direction of Ann Rybarczyk and Maxine Railton. He went on to further his studies at Bird College gaining a (BA) in Dance and Theatre Performance. Whilst at Bird's Neil performed works by David Fielding, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa and toured extensively with the Bird Theatre Company.

 

He has worked with Javier De Frutos, performing in Kismet at the London Coliseum alongside Michael Ball and Alfie Boe. Neil joined Wayne McGregor| Random Dance in 2006 and has toured both nationally and internationally, performing works including Polar Sequences, Amu, Ataxia and Entity. In 2010 Neil performed "The Clearing" with The Charles Linehan Company for Dance Umbrella Festival and danced for Rihanna on ITV's XFactor with choreography by Jason Mhyre.

 

Neil has worked extensively with Random Dance's Creative development programme and has taught for The Place, Laban, Sadlers Wells Theatre, Anniesland, Lewisham and Bird College.
